We are all going through many sets of emotions these days. From despair to gratitude, each one of us is engulfed by a variety of feelings, while we manoeuvre this overwhelming situation called COVID-19. Along with the emotions, we now have time, a commodity we once lacked in the hurly-burly of work, meetings, deadlines… Not to forget weekends of soccer practice, dance recitals, swimming lessons and dinners with friends.
This abundance of time presents yet another challenge in this period of social distancing. For those of us with children, we now have both quality and quantity of time to spend with them. The opportunity to do projects around the house that have been gathering dust or simply ignored. Hobbies, we’ve always wanted to take up. And then there’s the caring. Ensuring the vulnerable, parents, older relatives, friends and neighbours are cared for.
Each day, we’re greeted by the uncertainty and ambiguity of this situation, and it keeps us awake at night. While we wait to see the light at the end of this tunnel, we can still do things to counter this new reality. Like everyone else, I recommend, please stay at home. At L.A. Inc. we are working remotely, as the health and safety of our staff is the most important thing right now.
We are more connected now than we’ve ever been. Technology is the engine of our businesses. My team and I are working seamlessly. Presentations, brainstormings and even thoughts on Tiger King are being shared while each member of L.A. is scattered around the GTA. Every week, we do a virtual water cooler session. From recipes to personal stories of positivity, to fashion choices, it’s amazing the things you learn about your coworkers when you connect online at a human level.
I firmly believe that we’ll all get through this for the better. This is a defining moment in all our lives, regardless of stature. At L.A we have always said “creativity is the only advantage”, and I think this holds true today more than ever. Every day we come up with ways to come together, help one another. Online birthday parties, caremongering, virtual concerts… are bringing us together.
People make companies, and I could not be prouder and more impressed with our people. We have some of the best creative minds here at L.A. and we plan on sharing that creativity through our social media feeds. I hope we are able to bring smiles, and a bit of levity in these difficult times.
Those that know me, know I am always up for a good chat. So, if you feel like having a conversation, give me a call, a bit of distraction and empathy can go a long way during these times.
