Goodbye 2020, You will not be missed.
2020 has been a thundering topsy turvy roller coaster to say the least. Most of us started the year with high hopes, vacations, family gatherings, birthday parties, graduations planned. And in the wink of an eye, our calendars were wiped clean. And we were left with a maelstrom of emotions and uncertainties. We’ve watched the world go through, not only a pandemic, but also lockdowns, social unrest, elections. Two economies running side by side, an ever-widening economic gap between rich and poor, businesses closing, neighbourhoods changing. Graduations, proms, weddings being cancelled. Halloween and the holiday season being very different. And loved ones separated.
Yet at the same time, there have been births, engagements, new friends and relationships made. Nature and wildlife rebounding, and even new businesses launched.
If anything, 2020 has been a year of adaptation with our lives, work, relationships, all moving into the digital space. Yes, that has led to Zoom and email fatigue, pandemic fatigue. We are working longer than previously, collaborating differently, conducting business virtually. Although challenging for both employers and employees, parents have been able to spend more time with their children. People have been productive by striking a balance between work and home life.
I have two high school aged daughters. As everyone with children knows during this time, it’s been “interesting”. Being home with your children as they do their schooling online, among other challenges. The family unit in many cases is stretched, and under pressure like never before. I tell my kids, that right now, live in the moment, no one knows what the future will bring. So, enjoy what is right around you. Be thankful for all we have. Know that this is a bump in the road and there will be more. But it’s just that. A bump along the way. I think they understand. As much as a father of two teenagers can know.
I won’t get into the market that we at L.A. work in, which has been covered and dissected already through many articles and webinars. Although I am happy to have conversation with anyone about my thoughts on what I think the future will bring. Here at L.A., we are a family that has made it through the year, and I can’t say enough how proud and humbled I am with our team, watching everyone rise to the occasion and create amazing work for our clients. A big thank you to all our clients for entrusting us with your projects.
My message for next year is we will be ok. There will be bumps but we will find ways to override them. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting close, we’ll get there. As 2020 comes to a close, we look forward to 2021 with new projects and fantastic creative.
From our Family here at L.A. Inc. to yours. All the best for the holiday season. Stay healthy, cherish your family and friends. We all look forward to the time when we can give awkward long hugs to those we have been missing. Be forewarned, everyone I know is getting one.
